MMHA Tea Fundraiser

Celebrating the end of a successful event!
Celebrating the end of a successful event!

The 14th Annual Tea Fundraiser raised over $25,000 for the Mary Magdalene Home of Alaska on October 24, 2009.  The event was held at Crosspoint Church in south Anchorage, and over 200 people attended the live and silent auction, tea afternoon.  The theme of this year’s event was Hands for Hope, a 1940’s tea, and participants were encouraged to dress in period-wear and to remember their hats!

A touching speech by the guest speaker, Diane Benson, brought the entire room to a standstill.  Her touching story of her personal journey in Alaska was both heart-wrenching and heart-warming.  The participants, staff and board of directors, thank her very much for her time and attention to this cause.

It’s difficult to talk about the impacts sexual exploitation has on our community and how we can help to solve the problems surrounding it.  Prostitution is a last resort for desperation from poverty, violence, drug and alcohol abuse, mental and physical abuse and more, and raising awareness is where the community can lend a helping hand.

Thank you to our supporters, to our participants for lending your hand of hope during our annual fundraiser and throughout the year.
